The words you use…….

Balance:

  • a counterbalancing weight, force, or influence
  • an aesthetically pleasing integration of elements
  • mental and emotional steadiness

There are a lot of definitions under “balance” but I think these are good examples of how they play into dog training.

So what does “Balanced dog training” mean?  The humane use of all training tools, techniques  and methods, incorporating a natural balance of praise and discipline. (definition from http://humanetraining.org/)

If we raise children with a balance between praise and discipline or right and wrong, why would be not do the same with our dogs?  In my opinion dogs need to have a clear understanding of what their job is. If we allow our dogs to make their own decisions they may pick something that is not socially acceptable or down right embarrassing (they are dogs after all). So our job as responsible pet owners is to make sure our dogs are well behaved and have a clear understanding of the rules of the game.

On The Ball K9 Training employs “balanced” training methods, specializing in Remote Training Collars.

We recently asked our clients “If you could describe your training with a remote collar in one word, what would it be?”

Here are some of the responses that we received:

  • Life-Changing!!! …and yes, I am considering that one word!
  • Surprising!!
  • Liberating
  • Magic
  • Rewarding
  • Effective
  • Communication
  • Freedom
  • Versatile
  • Effective
  • Easy

What best describes the training with your dog?

If you cant think of any positive words about training with your dog, than maybe you need to look at your training program.  Remember, the words you choose are the actions you use.  Happy training!
